"We got a 100% pass rate"

We know that many young players have begun to disengage with education before they undertake their scholarship. We know that then they will be 'spoon fed' their education at an academy developing in them 'learned helplessness'. Despite this, we know that they will pass the qualifications.

Over the past few weeks in England, young people have received their GCSE, BTEC and A-Level results. The first-year scholars will have received their GCSE results for young males in professional football academies. Meanwhile, the scholarship graduates (those who received a professional contract or were released at the end of last season) will have received their BTEC or A-Level results.

I have researched this area for around 15 years and feel compelled to write about this topic based on some reporting I have read in the past fortnight. It is not easy to write or (perhaps) read but it needs to be said. There are some fundamental issues with the BTECs that young people study in football academies.
